Default Need some advice on axle swap

Hey people. It's been a couple of weeks since I've been on. I was getting ready to come back here to the hot box.
Before I ask the questions, here's a little info about my rig:
    1991 YJ 4.0HO 153,000 miles
TF999 with some slippage when putting it in reverse and a bit of grinding when putting it in park.
    NP231 w/SYE works flawlessly
    8.8 with 4.56/Detroit locker
    D30 with 4.56/lock rite/XJ 1 piece passenger shaft
    35x12.5x15 Baja Claws (black steelies)
    6 point roll cage
    etc..etc...

    Here's the situation:
Dana 30's don't like 35" tires and mine is no exception. They especially don't like flipping on their sides with 35" tires. Needless to say, my bearings are going. Rather than replace parts that will fail again in time, I decided to upgrade to a D44. My tranny has seen better days and as stated before, is starting to show signs of failure. I found a 1988 waggy with 137,000 miles with a 360 and a slipping tranny. I know the thranny situation wont improve, but my option for bolt-ons will.

    Now the questions:
Would you keep the 8.8 and pursue a HP44 with spacers to convert the BP to 4.5, or swap the 44's in and sell the front and rear to pay for gearing and lockers?
Would you suggest swapping the 360 and going with a c6 with a ford 205 xcase? ( barring a slight stretch )
    I need some advice/opinions.

I would say no to this. You have a really solid motor/transfer case, and it would be a ton of time/money to switch them out. Just find a new tranny imo.

What about the axle swap. The front needs to be swapped anyway...

I don't know much about 8.8's. The Dana 44 however is one of the best axle's ever with tons of aftermarket support. Again, it comes down to how much time/money you want to put into this project.

I'd put the money that you would spend on a 44 for the rear into another toy for the Jeep.

I guess I could probably part out the rest of the waggy and put it toward a good tranny

I agree with the above post about NOT swapping motor, tranny, tcase. With the money you can get out of parting the waggy, you could probably get a rebuilt tranny.

The front axle I would use the waggy 44, without question. The rear is another story.

I posted a question pertaining to the rear axle swap on another forum that I use, and I got some good info. My question pertains to a TJ, but it'll work for the YJ as well. Here is the link to the thread.
