    Default Seeking Insurance Advice

Hey Bro's, how do y'all insure your restored built up rigs?

I picked up my '84 CJ7 from Jeff Daniels on 11 June. I've got $33K in it so far and can't get anyone to come close to covering that amount. The "classic car" company that is associated with USAA told me that a "show quality 80's CJ" was worth $7,000.00. I was laughing out loud, then she said I could only put 3000 miles a year on it. WTF? I know classic car insurers have mileage limits, but 3000? My biggest concern is theft.

Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Pat

I believe the insurance value on a classic has to do with its rarity.. not how much money you've put into it. CJ's are almost a dime a dozen, which is why the quote is so low. Anything extra outside of stock items would have to be insured additionally. If you bought a car & put premium rims and sound system in it, and then had you shit stolen in the night, insurance would only replace up to the value of the stock items, unless you had additional insurance.

Also, the insurance company probably factors in the 4X4 capability in the quote. THey are not going to insure you CJ at $30 grand figuring you will probably take it off roading & possibly mess it up causing them to pay out a lot of money. Its just not a feasible investment for them. And like I said before, its a CJ, Its not like its a classic hotrod or ford model T.

    Gotta take it in perspective

she's right, but geico let me list mods. it ups the amount you pay but you're covered for more. I aproximated value of mods but shot low on some because the monthly costs won't outweigh the chance of is getting stolen or totaled. good luck finding the right company

Do a search on "insurance" at www.jeepforum.com. There was a post in the CJ section talking about different insurance companies that people use for their rigs.
