Default A challenge for CJ owners

I have a grand to spend. I need to do the 4.0L header upgrade. Let's get a parts list and cost up to a grand. I'm doing this right, not a bullshit shit build that I have to redo sometime. Let's see the lists.

    PARTS LIST:
    - 4.0L Head Provided- $500 here
    - 4.0L Head Gasket- Pep Boys
    - 4.0L Exhaust Manifold or Header- $250 Crazy4ink (if it's still around)
    - Exhaust Manifold Gasket- Pep Boys
    - 4.0L Valve Cover- $104.99 here
    - 4.0L Valve Cover Gasket- Pep Boys
    - Spacers- $30.95 Here
    - 4.0L Intake Manifold- $289 here
    - Torque Wrench- $80 here

    Total Thusfar: $1254.94

EDIT: Whatever I don't spend, I get to use on something else.

Chris, You will also need head spacers. Clifford has these (spendy for four - like $20), I'll try to find Summit Racing #'s for you.

Will you have enough change to add in a cam kit?

Mopar Performance head gasket is thinner than Fel-pro (ever so slightly more compression).

Don't forget about having to fab up your power steering bracket, and if you keep your 4.2L intake, you will need homemade intake/exhaust manifold keepers - here's a link to Jeepforum - CJ section http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showt...4.0L+head+swap

haha. I have a grand. I can buy whatever I want up to that. What if I just get a 4.0 intake?

Which one of those four listings is the one I need?

I am re-reading that writeup and I don't see the need for spacers.

Your head has the 7/16" head bolts. The 4.0L head has the 1/2" head bolts, they changed the bolt size around '82-'87. Keep checking the pages, it's there somewhere. Also the torque requirements are different, the 1/2" bolts are 105-110 ft-lbs, and the 7/16" bolts are 85-90 ft-lbs <---but again check what I've posted.

4.0L intake?? Clifford's intake you can keep your current carb setup, Offenhauser intake requires a 4 bbl carb.....again more $$$$, well over your quota.

well, I have a lead on a 4.0l head and exhaust manifold. i just have to go pull it

As far as the spacers, you got it, I'll get it. Just give me a part number off of the four you linked to earlier.

Is this the intake manifold you are talking about?

Head gaskets I'd imagine I can get at autozone.

That, or from Mopar Performance (you're local dealer). Make sure you get the 4.0L gaskets!! You might be able to order them from Clifford.

Crazy4ink has a Banks header if the one you are looking for is cracked (where the tubes are welded into the collector).
