Are you going to be running a carb or fuel injection.

If you are running a carb you can buy a painless wiring harness and build it to fit accordingly.

There is no cheap solution to anything that you will do with that swap. You really need to know that going into this thing. Whatever you are "planning" on spending, double it. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Brady asked me to post this since he is having difficulties posting today.

From personal experience, the custom harness/ computer tune is 100000% worth it!!
For my computer I went with Jims Performance in MD. He does computers and harnesses, the only reason I didn't go with him for my harness was that it was already done when I bought it. He does GREAT, he's LIGHTNING fast, and knows his shit. When he did my computer I sent it in on Monday and had it back, installed, and running by Thursday night!

This is all of course if you are running fuel injection.. If you are running carbed, it’s a cakewalk to do yourself.

We just finished putting a 350 in my '04 TJ. We used the TBI setup from an '89 suburban, made our own harness and everything works like a champ. I didn't have the computer retuned/reburned yet because I wanted to see if it can relearn on it's own. IIRC, the Chevy computer #122728 is the one to have. It seems to be the most forgiving and learns the quickest/best.

I just found out that, AA I believe, has a super short tail shaft conversion for the gm np241 so you can swap the gm v-8 trans and t case into a tj. I'm thinking on swapping a vortec 350-4l60e-241 into my Dad's tj.

A lot depends on what your doing. As others have asked already is this a carb 350 or a FI 350??
Next is that if you use a engine that is older than the vehicle you are swapping it into you are violating Federal Laws. It doesn't matter if you have no smog check at home or that no one will ever check. If you do a swap like that you will own the Jeep for life. You legally can't sell it with a older engine. Now the one way around this is to update the engine your using to meet the emission requirements for the year of the swap vehile.

No the stock dash won't work with the Chevy engine. The dash gets all it's signals from the vehicle computer. Now what I have heard of people doing is to install all the stock sensors into the new engine. You keep the stock computer also. But you need the crank sensor and cam sensor to make the tach work.

The last option is the one I took. I installed a V-8 from a 1999 Dodge Dakota. The Dodge computer is the same as in a TJ. You just blend the two wiring harnesses and use the V-8 computer.
