Don't go Navy reserves and expect to go active... no matter what any recruiter tells you. Very difficult to do.
Your problem may end up being high year tenure with 10 years in. What's your current rank?
i have been in the army for 3 (unfortunately in europe ) but i was previously in the navy for 7 years. i am 1 year short of my ets in the army and i am trying to find out waht all i can do to go back to the navy(active duty)! i have called the navy recruiter here in germany but the only thing he says is to go to the navy reserves and then try to go active . there has got to be a better faster way! sorry to say but the army is just not for me...i like to work and be around those who actually know how to do there job not just politics(not to offend those of you in the army. thnx for any info

Try to find the critically manned career fields and go into one of them. I would find a different recruiter to talk to also.

well i am hoping to stay in the welding field and preferably on a ship but to be honest i think i might do damn near anything to go back and finish my time in the navy! as far as another recruiter does anyone know of a good one(if there is such a thing)
Hey there. First problem, there probably is not a "better faster way". Unless things have changed in the last 3 years, since I was an Army recruiter, nobody but the Army even takes prior service on active duty. Go online to the different service websites and ask the virtual or web recruiter and then try asking recruiters in other cities. I f they all say the same thing, then chances are, it is true. You can also wait and get out of Germany and you will find that things will change, they have changed for me at every duty station. I have hung in till it got better, and it always does.
Take care

Another issue is the last I heard, the Navy and Air Force were both decreasing in size and man power and the only increase was in the Army and Marines and currently I believe the Army suspended a lot of incentives becasue we have made mission for both recruiting and retention.
Yeah the AF thinned out quite a bit.. and now are looking to get people into certain career fields, because they realize they thinned out too much.... I would think being in the Navy already, would make it a bit easier to get back into active duty Navy.. Not sure how the rank part would work though, as if they will let you keep E-5 or what... Good luck trying to find another Navy recruiter, much less a useful one in Germany... I would say call back to one in the states if you can, and talk to them... they may not be able to do the paperwork and all for it, but they should be able to give or at least get some useful info for your... just explain that you are calling from Germany and you couldn't find a Navy recruiter over there... that is what I did to find out more info on going to the Reserves, or the Army... I had been thinking of swapping over as I would love to do the warrant officer program, and the government is too damn stupid to bring it back to the AF.
Try dropping SquidMonkey a PM, he hasn't been on in a while. As far as I know he's still a recruiter.

Good luck. AFIK, the Army will pretty much take anyone, almost anytime... they re-upped my kid, after first telling her there was no way they would re-enlist that particular Specialist. I remember her calling me all upset... I just told her ro relax, that as the 90-day window approached, her CO would be getting a call from higher up, asking why they weren't re-upping this soldier. Sure enough, she got a deal.
For the Army, sometimes, getting out and then visiting a NG recruiter is a good deal... it got me what I wanted (an MOS change) when I had been repeatedly told 'no way'.
I'm not sure I can help you any with the Navy, but the Army is just 'the Army' and everywhere you go, folks are always saying 'the Army isn't like this...' actually, yes it is.
Good luck.
But you know the retention officer/nco is going to be all over you, the more you say no.
