Default 30 mph and its like it goes into safe mode

Ok I am lost with this one. It an 87 4.2 and as soon as its worm and I hit 30 its more like it goes into a safe mode and then as soon as you take your foot off the gas and it goes back down to bout 25 and then you can drive again. But as soon as you get over 30 same thing. I dont know what to with this one.

The only thing i can suggest is make sure the transfer isnt in 4lo, you might also look at your sensors on the air intake and throttle body.

i had this problem but it was in a mazda mini van it took them forever to figure out because the sensors were showing the correct readings when checked. but the ecm was fried and not using the sensor info correctly

not saying yours is the same but....

An '87 YJ 4.2 has a carb! First thing I'd check is fuel filter, then ignition module.

this may sound crazy, but since we are doing desktop dynos, what the heck. check the throttle linkage- no kinks or getting caught- If problem is still there, Place jeep in neutral, and see how the throttle revs and down. If it seems to be free of the "safe mode" then you know that the problem is now in your x-mission or x-fer. Check the condition of your tranny fluid. Smell burnt or is there alot of bubbles in it.
