    Default 1985 cj-7

I bought this Jeep in April of '07. As you can see, it was a basket case that needed work to just about everything. I was looking to buy a running CJ, but mrs. jeepfever talked me into buying a this as a project "for the whole family to enjoy." Funny, after this thing hit my garage my family scattered faster than you could believe.

I immediately started with the disassembly, and I quickly learned that I hate torx bolts.

No kidding. Pretty sweet how the only two build threads are CJ's! c'mon Randy! Make it a third.

I took it all the way down to the frame. I had it sand-blasted, and then I brushed on POR-15. It turned out pretty good. I did the same for all the other small parts, too. The axles had to be wire-wheeled, etch primered, and then painted with a rattle can. I don't have too much confidence in the finish on them, but they look good at the moment.

I really like the frame up style. Keep up the good work.

How do you like the POR15? Trying to talk my dad into doing that on our '47 CJ2A "Father/Son" project. I've never used it yet.

I started spending a bunch of money, and then the brown trucks started making regular visits to the house. I didn't take a whole lot of pictures during this process, but I got put on the 3.5 Black Diamond Lift, and went found a set of axles with 3.31 gearing for now.

I couldn't be more pleased with it. I brushed mine on, and had no trouble with it at all. It's self-leveling, so I don't have any brush strokes at all. That stuff dries hard, too.
