never thought about it for this view of motorsports; however, back when I was putzing around with amateur rallycross the only real way to get sponsored was to have a decent vehicle and win races. No one's going to sponsor you if you haven't proven yourself yet.
I remember getting a bunch of stupid spam emails for obtaining sponsorship, but they weren't real sponsorships. They were a company that you paid, large amounts of money, to slap their name on your car. They didn't provide you with anything except a smaller bank account and some cheesey vinyl graphics.
So my suggestions..
Go out and start entering some amateur events.
Get good at them.
Be prepared to spend a lot of money fixing and maintaining your rig. No one's going to sponsor you if they don't see you're both great, and not looking for a free ride.
If you're any good start by contacting different offroad parts stores.
Don't expect anything, maybe a small discount.
Get stupid good, and start working your way into the professional arena.
Hope you can get better deals with potential sponsors.
Don't limit yourself to offroad only organizations. Some local companies might be willing to lend a hand to get their name out there.
Good luck.
